The spectacular Lakewood Nature Trail is a popular hotspot for Lakewood locals—and it’s no wonder, because it’s steeped in authentic, natural beauty. The native trees, plants, and grasses along both banks of the San Gabriel River create an idyllic escape dotted with pleasant clearings featuring park amenities. Boyar Park North, Boyar Park South, and Rynerson Park are all located along the trail.

Native wildlife frequents the area, as well, including sparrow hawks, herons, ospreys, and egrets. A fantastic array of wild butterflies flit along the dwarf rosemary, ceanothus, and Matilija poppy plants, and it’s not unusual to catch a glimpse of a barn owl in a cottonwood tree or a squirrel hopping between western redbuds and butterfly bushes.

This gorgeous natural space has three distinct entry points:

Monte Verde Park at 4626 North Shadeway

About Mae Boyar Park

Mae Boyar Park, divided into north and south sections, features a community room, athletic fields (lighted and non-lighted), and more. This beautiful park, tucked between charming and historic neighborhoods, straddles Del Amo Boulevard near the George Nye, Jr. Library.

About Rynerson Park

Rynerson Park features 40 acres of open space on the east side of the San Gabriel River. It’s located on Studebaker Road south of Del Amo Boulevard, and it’s where you’ll find miles of fitness trails winding through the most beautiful natural setting you’ll find in Lakewood. Rynerson Park has little league fields, a wildflower meadow, and circuit training stations. Playgrounds (including a tot lot), a rustic, outdoor amphitheater, and picnic shelters with barbecues are also located in this beautiful retreat.
